What are the different type of Electric Car chargers?

Updated: Aug 26, 2022

There are four main types of Electric Car chargers – slow, fast, super-fast and ultra-fast. These charging levels refer to the amount of power delivered to a vehicle and therefore charging speeds available to charge battery of an electric car.

Each charger type has an associated set of connector plugs that are designed for low- or high-power use, and for either AC or DC charging. In Australia, the standard connector plugs used are Type 2 (Mennekes) plug for AC charging and both the CCS2 and CHAdeMO for DC charging. Tesla supercharge stations only service Tesla vehicles due to a Tesla proprietary plug.
